ICYMI: Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. clarified on Thursday, March 20, 2025, that the Department of National Defense – Philippines and the Armed Forces of the Philippines do not have a law enforcement mandate.
During the Senate hearing on former President Rodrigo Duterte’s arrest, Teodoro stressed that the operation was solely a law enforcement matter. He explained that the AFP’s involvement was only upon the request of the Philippine National Police for assistance, reaffirming that their involvement was strictly limited to that capacity.
