QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — The Department of Energy (DOE) keeps its ISO 50001:2018 certification, recognized worldwide for Energy Management Systems (EnMS). It is the sole government agency in the country to earn this certification for the whole department, emphasizing its leadership in energy efficiency and sustainability.
Energy Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla expressed his appreciation for the DOE’s collective efforts.
“I am pleased with the proactive engagement of our employees, whose contributions have been instrumental in the success of the Department’s energy-saving initiatives. Their dedication sets a strong example of how collective action can drive meaningful change in managing resources responsibly. The confirmation of this certification ahead of the Annual National Energy Consciousness Month in December serves as a fitting prelude to the celebration,” the Secretary said.
ISO 50001:2018 is a global standard for energy management systems. It helps organizations of all sizes improve their energy performance and manage energy use more efficiently. The audit for the DOE certification took place from November 21 to 22, 2024, conducted by DQS Certification Philippines, Inc.
This certification shows the DOE’s strong dedication to boosting energy performance, increasing operational efficiency, and establishing sustainable energy management practices throughout its organization.
The department likewise adheres to ISO 50001 international rules by using systematic strategies to decrease energy usage.
The Government Energy Management Program (GEMP) is guided by the Inter-Agency Energy Efficiency and Conservation Committee (IAEECC), established under RA 11285. The program aims to reduce electricity and fuel consumption across government agencies by at least 10% through EEC strategies.
It focuses on important actions like upgrading air-conditioning and lighting to energy-saving inverter and LED systems, using electric vehicles, and regularly checking and recording energy use. These steps show the DOE’s dedication to promoting sustainable energy and establishing efficiency standards for all government agencies.
The DOE’s ISO 50001:2018 certification highlights its role in encouraging energy efficiency and sustainability, setting an example for both public and private sectors. (JLMN/PIA-NCR)
