MANILA, (PIA) — The Energy Efficiency Excellence (EEE) Awards continue to recognize both public and private organizations for their outstanding efforts in improving energy management and incorporating energy efficiency into their practices.
This year saw a record-breaking five hundred sixty-two (562) entries from various sectors, including industrial, commercial, and government. This reflects a growing recognition of energy efficiency as vital for sustainable development. Eighteen (18) outstanding entities were honored on December 12, 2024 for their efforts.
The private sector led the way with the highest number of entries across categories. The notable awardees in the industries and buildings category in the large buildings include Philippine Stock Exchange, SM Center Pulilan, Marquee Mall, Abreeza Corporate Center, BPI Cebu Corporate Center, Tagum Water Company Inc., SM City Tuguegarao, SM City Tanza, Alabang Town Center, Alveo Financial Tower, and Solaris One.
The Local government units (LGUs) also stood out this year, with the City Government of Batangas and the Municipality of Bacnotan, La Union receiving awards in the LGU category for 1st to 3rd Class City and Municipality, respectively.
In the National Government Agency category, the Department of Budget and Management (Central Office) and the Presidential Management Staff were honored for their energy-efficient practices in large buildings. The Department of Education Schools Division Office in Nueva Vizcaya also received recognition for energy efficiency in small and medium buildings.
Energy Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla commended the record number of participants, stressing that energy efficiency plays a vital role in solving major national challenges.
“Energy efficiency is a cornerstone of our strategy to address the rising cost of energy, combat climate change, and strengthen our energy security. This year’s record-breaking participation in the EEE Awards affirms that Filipinos are ready to embrace energy-saving innovations and practices. Let us continue the momentum to achieve the Philippine Energy Plan’s goal of 10 percent energy savings in oil and electricity consumption by 2040 to 2050,” Secretary Lotilla said.
The Department of Energy is working hard to meet these objectives. They are enhancing policies, like reclassifying Designated Establishments and allowing energy auditors in the Government Energy Management Program.
The EEE Awards will keep inspiring organizations to adopt conservation methods and promote sustainability, boosting the nation’s leadership in energy efficiency and climate resilience.
The EEE Awards, formerly the Don Emilio Abello Awards, is named in honor of the Father of the Energy Conservation Movement in the Philippines. This initiative started in the 1970s during the oil crisis linked to the OPEC oil embargo.
Every December coinciding with the commemoration of the National Energy Consciousness Month, the Department of Energy (DOE) acknowledges organizations that champion energy efficiency and sustainability practices. (JLN/PIA-NCR)
