TAYTAY, Rizal (PIA) — Residents of Barangay Dolores in Taytay, Rizal now have access to free medical and health services as the Department of Health (DOH) in Calabarzon launched PuroKalusugan—a grassroots healthcare program designed to bring essential services to small communities.
DOH Calabarzon Assistant Regional Director Voltaire Guadalupe said that PuroKalusugan aligns with the health department’s 8-Point Action Agenda, which includes Immunization, Nutrition, Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Maternal Health, Tuberculosis and HIV, Road Safety, Hypertension and Diabetes, and Cancer.
“Through PuroKalusugan, health promotion, preventive, and curative care will be accessible in every purok, particularly in underserved and unserved areas. The delivery of health services will not only be within reach for every Filipino but will also be tailored to the unique needs of each community,” Guadalupe said.
Implemented in partnership with local government units, PuroKalusugan focuses on delivering essential health services to smaller community governance structures called ‘puroks.’
Among the services provided during the health initiative launch on Feb. 21, include free medical consultations, free medicines, laboratory testing, oral health services, maternal health services, chest X-ray screenings, pneumococcal vaccinations, and nutrition counseling.
As part of its health promotion initiatives, lectures and activities were also conducted to educate children and youth on proper healthcare and disease prevention, particularly against dengue and measles. Topics covered in the lectures included hands-only CPR, road safety, handwashing, and adolescent health.
The Barangay Dolores local government expressed gratitude for the PuroKalusugan initiative, emphasizing the benefits it offers to their citizens.
The DOH aims to expand and bring PuroKalusugan to more communities to ensure that quality healthcare services are accessible to all. Guadalupe also thanked partner agencies for their support in the health initiative.
“Ang matagumpay na pagpatutupad ng programang ito ay patunay ng patuloy na pagsusumikap ng DOH at ng mga katuwang nitong ahensya upang mapabuti ang kalidad ng serbisyong pangkalusugan sa rehiyon ng Calabarzon,” he said. (FC, PIA4A)
