CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — Bearing the theme, “Alas Kwatro Kontra Mosquito,” the Department of Health-Center for Health Development Northern Mindanao (DOH-CHDNM) enjoins various government offices and individuals to participate in the Nationwide Search and Destroy Mosquito Breeding Sites at 4 p.m., February 24, forming part of the timely and coordinated efforts of the government against the spread of dengue.
“We encourage everyone to make these simple steps part of their daily routine, not just in the workplace but also at home, to safeguard loved ones and the broader community. Your active participation will not only enhance our collective advocacy but also reinforce the whole-of-government approach to dengue prevention and control,” said DOH-CHDNM Director Sulpicio Henry M. Legaspi Jr.
The DOH-CHDNM says that to make sure the initiative works, water should be drained from containers, old tires, and other things that aren’t needed to hold liquid, as well as from natural water collectors like ponds, tree holes, bamboo, and other places that hold water.
Water buildup in clay pots and plant holders, plastic containers, garbage lids, pet feeding dishes, and rain gutters can also be prevented through regular cleaning and maintenance.
Proper storage and replacement of water in storage containers at least twice a week is also advised to prevent mosquito breeding.
Underscoring the initiative’s benefit to both the workplace and at home, Legaspi encouraged making cleanliness at home and in the workplace a habit to better advocate for the elimination of mosquito breeding sites in nearby areas and communities. (GDA/PIA-10)
