BAGUIO CITY (PIA) – -The newly established Department of Health- Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (DOH-DATRC) in Bauko, Mountain Province is working for its accreditation in order to expand its services and cater to more clients in the Cordillera region.
DOH-DATRC Supervising Administrative Officer Randy Samonte reported in the recent “Kapihan sa Baguio” that they have already complied with all the requirements for a permit to be issued. He is hopeful that the DOH Central Office through the Health Facilities and Services Regulatory Bureau will confer the accreditation to the facility before the end of the year.
At present, the center has limited services like provision of technical assistance on substance abuse prevention and mental health; proactive advocacies on substance abuse prevention and mental health; drug dependency examination, and monitoring drug testing.
Once accredited, Samonte said the DATRC will provide additional services to include community advocacies, aftercare program, drug dependency exam on people who use drugs(PWUDs) , general medical consultation, management of medical emergencies and minor surgical procedures, management of co-occurring medical conditions, psychological testing, therapeutic counselling, case management, group therapy session, physical assessment, health education, drug testing, nutrition management for PWUDs, intake and psychosocial assessment, counselling, family intervention and psychoeducation, life skills/livelihood training, spiritual and religious activities.
The DOH-DATRC located at the Luis Hora Memorial Regional Hospital Compound in Abatan, Bauko is a 100-bed capacity center with facilities that include an Administration building, staff house, dormitory, activity area and confinement fence, powerhouse projects, sewerage treatment plant, kitchen and mess hall, and materials recovery facility.
In line with the celebration of Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week, Samonte announced the inauguration of the DOH-DATRC-MP and Promotion of a Gender Responsive Approach to Addiction will be on November 21-22, 2023. (JDP/MAWC/PIA-CAR)
