CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) – The Department of Health (DOH) has officially declared the province of Isabela as malaria-free in a ceremony held at Century Park Hotel in Manila on December 10, 2024.
DOH Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa presented the recognition to provincial officials during the awarding ceremony, which was also attended by officials from the World Health Organization (WHO) Philippines and Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc.
Isabela Provincial Health Officer Nelson Paguirigan highlighted the significant role of the provincial government in the successful fight against malaria, noting that the province has now registered zero cases of the disease.
Paguirigan also commended Malaria Program Coordinator Marvin Valiente for his consistent leadership in guiding health workers in the province’s malaria eradication efforts.
“With the full support of the Provincial Government of Isabela, the Integrated Provincial Health Office will focus on expanding community awareness about malaria prevention and ensuring immediate access to diagnosis and treatment, especially in high-risk areas,” Paguirigan said.
DOH Undersecretary and Cluster Head for Public Health Services congratulated Isabela for achieving malaria-free status. He assured the province of continued support and guidance from the DOH in implementing health programs and services, both within the province and nationwide. (OTB/MGE/PIA Isabela)
