DOH establishes specialty centers in Cagayan Valley

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) – – The Department of Health (DOH) Cagayan Valley is establishing various medical treatment specialty centers in the different government hospitals in the Cagayan Valley Region.

Regional Director Amelita Pangilinan said there were already 11 fully operational specialty centers located in the different public hospitals in the region.

These include cancer care, mental health, infectious disease and tropical medicine, lung care, and neonatal care centers at the Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC); the dermatology and venereology services, geriatric care, burn care, and eye care at the Southern Isabela Medical Center; the basic comprehensive care at the Region 2 Trauma and Medical Center (R2TMC); and the Drug Abuse and Rehabilitation Center in Ilagan City.

She said there are still 14 specialty centers under development to include brain and spine care, burn care, cardiovascular care, eye care, geriatric care, orthopedic care, physical rehabilitation medicine, renal care and kidney transplant, trauma care, and ENT care at the CVMC; and trauma care, burn care, orthopedic care and geriatric care at the R2TMC,

“The major objective of establishing these specialty centers is to bring nearer the services of our government hospitals to the people. This will also help patients ease their financial burdens as they need not spend so much time staying at the treatment specialty centers in Manila to seek medical treatment,” Pangilinan said.

She also said establishing specialty centers in the regions will help decongest the specialty treatment centers in Metro Manila.

On her part, Dr. Cherry Lou M. Antonio, medical center chief of CVMC, said massive construction of the infrastructure facilities is now being undertaken to open the other specialty centers for the services that the hospital will soon offer.

“While the facilities are being completed, we now send workforce for training and we start hiring medical specialists for these specialty centers that we will soon open,” Antonio said. (OTB/PIA Region 2)
