SAN JULIAN, Eastern Samar (PIA) — The Department of Health (DOH) is set to bring essential healthcare services closer to communities with the upcoming launch of “PuroKalusugan,” a primary healthcare program aimed at ensuring that every Filipino has access to quality health services.
A coordination meeting for the program’s rollout was held on Wednesday, February 13, at the San Julian Municipal Hall, gathering local health officials and stakeholders to finalize preparations.
According to Dr. Jean Marie A. Egargo, provincial health team leader of DOH Eastern Samar, the “PuroKalusugan” program is part of DOH’s initiative, led by Secretary Ted Herbosa, aimed at making healthcare services more accessible and reaching remote communities more efficiently.
“We will be monitoring the services, we will be monitoring the health outcomes, and we will be cascading this program in the whole province because gusto natin maging healthy lahat, gusto natin ma-improve ang health outcomes sa Eastern Samar para healthy tayong lahat,” Egargo said.
Services under the program include immunization, oral health, maternal care, tuberculosis control, nutrition support, non-communicable disease prevention, and environmental sanitation initiatives.
Egargo added that RHU San Julian will provide the resources and the staff will be the key movers during the launching on February 26.
She further said that while barangays Nena and San Isidro were also selected for the program, the official launching will take place in Brgy. Libas.
Aligned with the DOH’s Eight-Point Action Agenda, particularly the goal of “Bawat Pilipino Ramdam ang Kalusugan,” the program underscores the government’s commitment to a Bagong Pilipinas where every life is valued.
Punong Barangay Ofelia Jaradal of brgy. Libas expressed her deep gratitude that their barangay was chosen as the pilot area for the program.
“Although we were chosen for having a health crisis, I’m still happy that the crisis will finally be solved through this program,” Jaradal added.
According to her, this initiative is a great help to their community, especially for residents experiencing health issues.
At the upcoming launch, PhilHealth will also be present for the Konsulta Registration Caravan, where additional beneficiaries can register for PhilHealth’s Konsulta program.
San Julian will be the first municipality in the province to implement “PuroKalusugan,” marking a significant step toward improving community-based healthcare delivery in the whole province. (VTG/PIA Eastern Samar)
