DOH marks World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims in La Union

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – The Department of Health-Ilocos Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD-1)  held a series of activities to commemorate the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims on November 19.

The commemoration was aimed at remembering the countless people lost or injured on roads and acknowledging the suffering of all affected families and communities throughout the Ilocos Region.

More than just a commemoration, the activity also serves to inform the public on crash prevention as well as the proper response in the event of crashes, thereby leading to better measures and the saving of lives.

The activity commenced with a motorcade of participating agencies, local government units, and private stakeholders from the towns of Sudipen and Rosario which converged at the La Union Convention Center in this city.

The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims held at the La Union Convention Center on November 19 is attended by government and private stakeholders from the four provinces of Region 1.

Life-saving measures presented during the set of activities at the convention center include hands-on cardiopulmonary resuscitation for high school students and riders and Traffic Management during Road Works by the Department of Public Works and Highways.

The La Union Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office meanwhile presented topics on first aid for traffic victims and referral system for road accidents while the Land Transportation Office talked about the pertinent laws on traffic and driving.

In support of the aforementioned, the Highway Patrol Group presented the prohibited devices and accessories of motor vehicles while the City of San Fernando’s Public Safety Office presented the traffic regulations in the city.

In a message delivered by Provincial Health Office Head, Dr. Eduardo Posadas from Governor Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, she conveyed her support towards making roads safer and more convenient to people of La Union as well as all motorists passing through the province.

“I affirm our commitment to creating safer roads in our province for the sake of our kaprobinsyaan and to all motorists. We, in the Provincial Government of La Union, have been taking concrete measures to enhance road safety,” Governor Ortega-David said.

DOH-CHD-1 Regional Director Paula Paz Sydiongco meanwhile reminisced upon the toll that road traffic accidents have had on the people of Region 1 and reaffirmed the health agency’s commitment to provide health services for victims of road traffic accidents.

“This national day of remembrance is a platform for all of us gathered here today to remember those killed and seriously injured due to road accidents but to also promote building and creating safe roads,” Director Sydiongco added. (JCR/AMB/CCMT, PIA La Union)
