DOH reiterates diligent practice of 4S and 4Ts in dengue fight

DOH-CAR Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit Nurse V Victoria Malicdan shared strategies to prevent the surge of dengue, during the Kapihan sa Cordillera on April 10,2025 at the DOH- CAR Training Center in Baguio City.

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Department of Health (DOH) in the Cordillera reiterates  the diligent practice of the 4S and the 4Ts  in the fight against dengue.

DOH Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit nurse  Victoria Malicdan  emphasized the need to scale up  control measures amidst the  increasing dengue cases  in the region.

Malicdan said that prevention measures could be done to stop the proliferation of dengue.

“For our prevention, ito lagi nating sinasabi na mag-4S kontra dengue. You have to search and destroy, secure self-protection, seek early consultation, and support spraying in hotspot areas to prevent impending outbreak” she said.

She also iterated the 4Ts or the “Taob, Taktak, Tuyo, and Takip,” a cleanup drive activity to eliminate stagnant water where mosquitoes breed.

“Ginagawa natin rin ito every 4 o’clock p.m., and before 4 o’clock sana, ginagawa natin ito every day of our life, yung taob, taktak, tuyo, takip, at the same time yung 4S din sana. Ito ay epektibong paraan para labanan ang pagkalat ng dengue lalo na sa panahon ng tag-ulan,” she said.

From January to  April 5 ,2025, the Cordillera region logged  1,704 cases with  four deaths, or 48 percent  higher compared to the same period last year.

Based on the DOH data, males are more affected with 893 cases or 53% of the total infections. Ages of cases range from one month to 97 years with the age group of 20 years old and below  the most affected.

Dengue is the fastest spreading vector-borne disease in the world endemic in 100 countries, according to DOH.

While the Dengue virus transmitted by the day- biting Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes has no cure, the disease can be managed.(JDP/CVBT-PIA CAR)
