IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay (PIA) – The Provincial DOH Office (PDOHO) of Zamboanga Sibugay has actively promoted the “Ligtas Christmas Campaign,” underscoring the importance of preparation and consumption of healthy food during the festive holiday season.
During the recent PIA Talakayan in Zamboanga Sibugay, Maria Reiza C. Anino, Development Management Officer III of PDOHO, presented the DOH Ligtas Christmas sa Healthy Pilipinas guidelines for a safe and healthy celebration in 2023.

The officer put emphasis on the healthy handaan feature of the campaign, highlighting eating right during the holidays.
“We should incorporate a healthy diet for this upcoming holiday and include portions of go, grow, and glow foods, and avoid alcoholic and sweetened drinks,” Anino said.
Also, during the recent PDOHO media forum, it was also emphasized that, in celebrating Christmas and New Year, Filipino families should be mindful of the food they consume. While it’s okay to indulge a bit, it’s best to fill our plates with healthy options, too.
Alomar Adlawan, a registered nutritionist-dietitian, underscored the importance of celebrating a healthy holiday, stating, “Eating a balanced diet, including vegetables and fruits, is a must. Also, incorporate 30 minutes of physical activity and ensure you get enough rest.”

These initiatives promote a culture of health, not only during celebrations but as a lifestyle choice, encouraging individuals and families to make informed and positive decisions for their well-being throughout the holiday season and beyond.
The campaign also promotes measures such as wearing a face mask, hand hygiene, safe gift choices, and responsible screen-time policies for kids. Additionally, for a safer holiday, Iwas Paputok recommends alternatives like noise-producing devices and virtual platforms to prevent firecracker-related injuries, emphasizing the importance of vigilant parenting to protect children from potential harm of firecracker ingestion and injury.
PDOHO encouraged the public to actively contribute to a safe and healthy holiday season by adhering to the Ligtas Christmas campaign guidelines.
“As we celebrate the festive season, we at PDOHO extend our warm wishes for a joyful and safe holiday and let us prioritize the health and well-being of ourselves and our loved ones,” Anino said. (KSA/RVC/EDT/RBI/PIA9-Zamboanga Sibugay)
