DOH talks to media for health literacy on violence, injury prevention

DAVAO CITY (PIA) –The Department of Health (DOH) engaged the media from southeastern and central Mindanao regions for health literacy on violence and injury prevention in Apo View Hotel, Davao City on December 4-6.

Dr. Dominic Maddumba of the Health Promotions Bureau (HPB) of DOH acknowledged the need to partner with local media practitioners to amplify correct information and the right messages to the public.

“Importante po na alam ng ating mga media ang mga pangyayari sa kalusugan para maipaabot po natin ang tamang impormasyon sa ating mga kasama sa ating lipunan,” Dr. Maddumba said.

(It is important that the media should be aware about health issues so they can share the right information to the society.)

During the conference, DOH, together with its partner non-government organizations, discussed violence and injury prevention programs such as the Ligtas Christmas, road safety, drowning prevention, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) / acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), and immunization.

Around 25 media practitioners from the regions of Davao, SOCCSKSARGEN, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) participated in the three-day conference.

“Kitang-kita po talaga na very interested and I hope that this will translate into very meaningful news na magagamit po ng ating mga kababayan,” Dr. Maddumba stressed.

(You can see they are very interested and I hope this would translate into very meaningful news that could be used by our countrymen.)

The health promotions official also disclosed that the same conference will be conducted to reach other media practitioners.

“Without our media partners, hindi po magiging kumpleto ang aming communication framework dahil kayo po ang importante na source ng ating mga kababayan,” he said.

(Our communication network will not be complete because you are the very important source of news by our countrymen.) (MLU/PIA Davao de Oro)
