DOH unveils Super Family Health Center in Dagupan City

DAGUPAN CITY (PIA) – The Dagupan City Super Family Health Center in Barangay Bolosan is now accessible to residents of the city following its recent inauguration led by the Department of Health (DOH) in Ilocos Region.

DOH Region 1 Regional Director Paula Paz Sydiongco said the new center aims to enhance medical services for the city’s eastern barangays.

She said this Super Family Health Center is the largest health center facility in Region 1 in terms of floor area and budget.

Sydiongco said the facility has a floor area of 670 square meters and is the ninth center to operate in the province of Pangasinan, along with the super health centers in the municipalities of Mapandan, Urbiztondo, Basista, Balungao, Manaoag, Umingan, Tayug, and Alaminos City.

Sydiongco disclosed that the center was funded through the DOH’s Health Facility Enhancement Program with a P10 million budget, supplemented by an additional P5 million contribution from the Dagupan City government.

“This facility will offer services such as dental care, laboratory tests, X-rays, birthing services, and other medical care, complementing our existing primary care facilities. The goal of establishing super health centers in each municipality is to bring essential medical services closer to the community, reducing the need for residents to travel and wait in hospitals,” Sydiongco said.

She added that the new facility will benefit Barangays Bolosan, Salisay, Mangin, Tebeng, Tambac, and Mamalingling residents.

“Every super health center includes a birthing area or delivery room, minor operating or surgical room, ward, dental clinic, laboratory, pharmacy, tuberculosis directly observed therapy, and other outpatient services to serve the local community,” she noted.

Nancy Morris, barangay captain of Bolosan, expressed gratitude to the government for bringing the health center closer to the community and serving as a hub for health and wellness.

Dagupan City Mayor Belen Fernandez also commended DOH for the new facility, stating that it will be staffed by skilled doctors, nurses, and allied professionals and equipped with medical supplies and modern facilities.

“With the completion and inauguration of the center, Dagupeños can now access its services, reducing their transportation costs to city hospitals. This will ensure that quality and essential health services are delivered to everyone,” Fernandez said.

The facility, which began construction in February 2023, was completed on August 6, 2024.

The access road leading to the center was donated by philanthropist Dr. Ashok Vasandani. (AMB/MJTAB/EMSA/PIA Pangasinan)
