DOJ-NPS implements tech-driven legal reforms

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — The Department of Justice – National Prosecution Service (DOJ-NPS) is implementing significant innovations to modernize the legal system.

Regional Prosecutor Merlynn Barola-Uy shared during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas on August 27 the issuance of Department Circular No. 015, which introduces updated rules for preliminary investigations and inquest proceedings.

The circular now permits electronic filing and allows the use of video conferencing for preliminary investigations and e-inquests.

Uy highlighted that these reforms aim to leverage technology to improve accessibility and efficiency in the justice system. “So that’s how we also take advantage of technology so that our clients will have better access to justice,” she emphasized.

According to her, this development is particularly beneficial for remote police units and private complainants, allowing them to participate in proceedings without requiring physical presence.
