ISABELA CITY, (PIA) – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-9 reported high utilization rate of 72% on its Government Internship Program (GIP) funds as of August 2024 with a total of 1,485 young professionals placed as interns in various government offices, providing them with valuable experience and skills.
Engr. Wesly D. Tan, OIC-assistant regional director of DOLE-9, said during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas with the Philippine Information Agency that the GIP is crucial in helping young professionals develop their skills and knowledge.
“This program is intended to provide the needed experiences for our young professionals,” Engr. Tan emphasized as he expressed his confidence that through this program young professionals will become more competitive and equipped to take on the challenges of the job market.
The GIP in Region 9 has been allocated a budget of P86.34 million for this year, with P62.06 million already utilized. The program’s utilization rate for 2022 was an impressive 96%, with 1,608 interns served. In 2023, the program’s utilization rate was 94%, with 1,210 interns benefiting from the program.
Engr. Tan also stressed that while the allocated funds for GIP may not be fully implemented every year, the yearly obligation rate has almost reached the allotment rate at the end of the given period of utilization.
The GIP’s implementation, as a flagship program of DOLE, is part of its commitment to support young professionals and provide them with opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge.
