IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay (PIA) — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) awarded the Kauswagan Farmers Association PhP500,000 to enhance their spiced vinegar production, locally known as “Sinamak,” supporting local enterprise and sustainable growth.
This initiative, under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program, aims to empower grassroots organizations by providing resources that support community-based enterprises and sustainable economic opportunities.
Miguel Singahan, president of the 30-member association, expressed his gratitude to DOLE and its partners for the intervention.

“We are very grateful for the assistance we received. This project will truly help our livelihood and provide more opportunities for our community,” he said.
The livelihood grant included a complete package of tools, equipment, and raw materials designed to increase the quality and volume of the association’s production.
Elamsalih Ungad, provincial director of DOLE Zamboanga Sibugay, emphasized the impact of the assistance on the lives of the beneficiaries.
“These are not just livelihood kits—they are instruments of transformation. We are investing in your potential, your resilience, and your ability to uplift not only your families but the community as a whole. Sustainability begins with shared responsibility,” Ungad said.

The association, composed of local farmers in Barangay Kauswagan, Mabuhay town, has long been producing Sinamak using traditional techniques.
With this support, the group aimed to boost production, enhance quality, and reach wider markets.
The livelihood assistance is expected to help generate more income for its members and inspire further innovation in local food processing.
The project was made possible in collaboration with the local government of Mabuhay, through its Public Employment Service Office, along with the support of the Buug Multi-Purpose Cooperative, DOLE’s accredited co-partner.
With continued guidance and technical support, the Kauswagan Farmers Association is poised to become a model for sustainable community enterprise in the province. (EDT/RBI/PIA9-Zamboanga Sibugay)
