DOLE Camiguin empowers residents through DOLE, BPESO day

MAMBAJAO, Camiguin (PIA)–In continuing its commitment to uplifting the lives of the province’s residents, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Camiguin organized the DOLE and BPESO (Barangay Public Employment Service Office) Day at the Mambajao Municipal Hall, September 6.

The event encompassed a range of activities aimed at enhancing career prospects, promoting employment, and bolstering livelihood opportunities within the province. These included career and employment coaching, the DOLE quiz bowl, livelihood project turnover, and profiling for the TUPAD Program.

One notable highlight of the event was the turnover of livelihood projects valued at P832,000, benefiting 23 beneficiaries through the CP Hubangon Fisherfolks Association. These projects were designed to empower individuals in various fields, such as cake and pastry enhancement, dry goods and frozen goods selling, street food vending, sewing, alacarte vending, food and snack preparation, tablea making, and eatery operations.

Additionally, assistance was extended for projects involving welding shops, e-loading services, rice retailing, carwash vending machines, buy-and-sell beauty products, street food and snack vending, fish vending, and alacarte food services.

The DOLE quiz bowl added a competitive element to the event, with Yumbing National High School taking first place, followed by Mambajao National High School and Tupsan National High School.

In another significant undertaking, DOLE Camiguin spearheaded the profiling of residents in multiple barangays for the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.

The program aims to assist residents of Barangay Baylao, Guguita, Tagdo, Tupsan Benhaan, Magting, Pandan, Poblacion, Naasag, Bugong, Agoho, Yumbing, Anito, Balbagon, and Sorosoro in their quest for employment and livelihood opportunities.

Mambajao Mayor Yñigo Jesus Romualdo expressed the importance of holistic progress, emphasizing that development should encompass not only infrastructure but also the well-being and advancement of the people residing in the town and province.

“Kani nga program, mao ni siya ang tabang nga mutabang gyud sa inyoha, pag makuha ni ninyo karon, dapat next week naa pa gihapon, dapat next month naa pa gihapon. Dili pwede nga karon, lipay kay ta karon, next week, hapay [This program is the assistance that will really help you; if you get it now, it should still be there next week, and it should still be there next month. The aid should not just be present today. We should avoid being happy now and then having a hard time next week],” Romualdo said.

The DOLE and BPESO Day served as a testament to the government’s commitment to promoting socio-economic growth and inclusivity in Camiguin, aiming to empower residents for a brighter and more prosperous future. (RTP/PIA-10/Camiguin)
