LUCENA CITY (PIA) — Around a thousand workers in Lucena City received financial assistance under the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.
According to the DOLE Quezon Provincial Office, the total payout of P8,444,800 provided financial support to displaced and disadvantaged individuals in the city.
The TUPAD program is a flagship initiative of DOLE that offers emergency employment to informal workers who have lost their livelihoods due to economic shocks, disasters, or other crises.
DOLE said that through this program, beneficiaries are given short-term jobs such as community clean-up and maintenance work, which are both income-generating and beneficial to the public.
“This payout is more than just financial aid, it’s a sign that the government sees and supports every hardworking Filipino who continues to persevere through difficult times,” said DOLE QPO Officer-in-Charge Cristina H. Barayang.
Maria Luisa Ramos, one of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to DOLE and the national government, stressing that the financial assistance would help them cover basic needs.
“Malaking tulong po ito sa amin. Nakakaraos kami kahit papaano sa pang-araw-araw. Maraming salamat po sa DOLE at sa TUPAD.”
Barayang said that the success of the distribution in Lucena City highlights the ongoing efforts of DOLE Quezon to uplift workers and help them recover from the impacts of unemployment and underemployment.
“With renewed hope and a sense of purpose, TUPAD beneficiaries can now move forward, knowing that they are not alone in their journey. DOLE Quezon remains committed to strengthening its labor programs and reaching more communities in need,” Barayang explained. (RMO, PIA Quezon/DOLE 4A)
