BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) – The Department of Labor and Employment has awarded more than P7 million worth of livelihood kits to the parents of child laborers in Kasibu, Nueva Vizcaya.
The Livelihood Kits worth P30,000 each were funded through the DOLE Integrated Livelihood or Kabuhayan Program.
The beneficiaries will use the livelihood kits for their chosen ventures, such as vegetable crop production and selling, auto repair services, welding and furniture services, and handicraft making.
Elizabeth Martinez, DOLE provincial head, said the awarding of livelihood kits is part of the government’s efforts to address the issue of child labor in the province.
“By giving them livelihood kit packages, the parents of child laborers will have their own business to support their children’s proper growth and development,” she said.
Harisson Dadhoc, a beneficiary from Barangay Capisaan said the DOLE assistance will help them to start anew with a business to support their children’s education and other needs.
“Rest assured that we will manage well and sustain this livelihood for the welfare of our children,” he said.
Dadhoc and other beneficiaries were given orientation through the Business and Work Improvement Course that covered the following lessons: entrepreneurship, work values development, simple bookkeeping, occupational safety and health, and emergency first aid. (OTB/BME/PIA NVizvaya)
