DOLE-Ilocos Norte records 12 hired on the spot in Kalayaan Job Fair

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte (PIA) – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Ilocos Norte successfully conducted a job fair recently as part of the 126th Philippine Independence Day celebration.

The event offered 1,118 job openings from 31 participating employers.

A total of 110 job seekers attended, with 12 individuals getting hired on the spot.

Among the successful applicants was 18-year-old John Rodney Caliboso, a first-year Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management student.

He landed a service crew position at a fast-food chain.

“I am grateful because I am a first-time jobseeker and I was fortunate enough to secure a job on the spot. Thank you so much to DOLE because, as students, we really need work experience, and most of all, it is one of our assets for a successful future,” he said.

“During this school break, I will work full-time, but when school starts, I will work part-time to support my finances while studying,” Caliboso added.

The job fair also provided a convenient one-stop shop for job seekers to process pre-employment documents.

Government agencies like the Social Security System (SSS), Pag-IBIG Fund, Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth), Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) were all present to offer their services.

“This job fair is in coordination with the PESO [Public Employment Service Office] in San Nicolas. Some government agencies are also here to provide their services to not only the jobseekers but also anyone who needs to avail government services,” Janelyn Martin, DOLE Ilocos Norte head, said.

Martin further emphasized DOLE’s commitment to supporting those hired at job fairs.

The agency monitors placements to ensure new hires can promptly apply for necessary identification cards, insurance, and other requirements. (JCR/AMB/EJFG/PIA Ilocos Norte)
