DOLE-NCR official encourages interns to avail GIP

QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — An official of the Department of Labor and Employment National Capital Region (DOLE-NCR) on Tuesday encouraged interns to avail of the agency’s Government Internship Program (GIP) designed to offer young workers valuable opportunities to engage in public service projects at both national and local levels.

DOLE-NCR Assistant Regional Director Atty. Olivia O. Obrero-Samson highlighted the initiative during the 17th edition of the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas media forum hosted by the Presidential Communications Office and Philippine Information Agency. “The Government Internship Program is an opportunity for young workers to experience government service.” Joining the official were DOLE-NCR Regional Director Atty. Sarah Buena S. Mirasol (virtually) and DOLE-NCR ARD Atty. Jude Thomas P. Trayvilla.

Obrero-Samson said the program is open to individuals aged 18 to 30, including graduates of technical and vocational courses as well as college graduates.

However, Obrero-Samson noted that exceptions may apply for those over 30 in disaster-stricken areas, provided they meet specific conditions.

May mga pagkakataon na pwede ‘ding i-avail ang program na ito kahit na they are beyond 30 years old provided ay may mga conditions lang na kailangan i-comply like for example disaster stricken yung area nila, that’s an exemption pero as a rule and pwede lang dito mag-avail ay 18 to 30 years of age,” she said.

The official explained that interns will work under contracts not exceeding one year and will receive a daily stipend equivalent to the prevailing minimum wage in their region.

Additionally, participants will be covered by the Group Personal Accident Insurance (GPAI) provided by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).

She said interns will have the chance to collaborate with partner agencies, such as the Department of Trade and Industry and the National Labor Relations Commission, as well as local government units.

We have partner agencies, like the DTI, NLRC kung saan noon sila pwedeng ma-deploy (where they can be deployed) plus our partners from the local government agencies,” she added.

The GIP aims to nurture future leaders in public service, as outlined in Department Order 204-19, which details the program’s implementation guidelines.

Obrero-Samson again encouraged interns to seize the learning opportunities available, emphasizing that such experiences could pave the way for rewarding careers in government.

The program also seeks to contribute to the government’s goal of inclusive growth through employment generation, ultimately aiming to elevate the lives of citizens in the region.

By engaging the skills and talents of young individuals, the GIP aspires to attract the best and brightest minds to public service, fostering a new generation of leaders committed to national development. (AVS/PIA-NCR)
