CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-10 convened the Regional Tripartite Industrial Peace Council (RTIPC) and the Regional Coordinating Committee (RCC) to come up with a unified commitment to enhance the livelihoods of the citizens of northern Mindanao by ensuring robust, inclusive, and sustainable employment growth as input to the crafting of the Regional Employment Plan.
“The region’s employment plan is aligned with the country’s Labor and Employment Plan (LEP) 2023-2028 and an input to the “Trabaho Para sa Bayan” (TPB) Act, which envisions a comprehensive multi-stakeholder approach to employment generation, thus the importance of collaboration with the government, private sector, educational institutions, and civil society,” DOLE-10 Regional Director Erwin N. Aquino said.
The collaborative meeting paved the way for a resilient and adaptive workforce ready to meet the demands of the Philippine labor market. Hence, the session was pivotal in engaging in comprehensive discussions, analyzing data, sharing best practices, identifying gaps and opportunities, and setting clear action goals, resulting in a dynamic plan capable of adapting to unforeseen challenges like global economic change, technological obstructions, and public health crises.
As outputs, the RTIPC and RCC identified (1) where the emerging jobs will be created at the regional and provincial levels under the six-year plan and Key Employment Generators (KEGs) in the next four years; (2) regional challenges in creating an enabling environment for job creation and investment promotion (demand-side) and increasing the employability or expanding the access to employment opportunities of NorthMin workers;
(3) an agreed timeline in the review and validation of existing strategies under the Philippine and Regional Development Plans, LEP, and innovation of new strategies within the context of the region; and (4) what measures to make to assess the progress of the said proposed strategies.
“The output of the meeting will form part of the 2024 National Employment Summit on June 26–27, which forges the commitments among social partners and relevant stakeholders towards the development of the 10-year TPB Act that will stimulate national and local economic growth; understand the impact of global trends affecting implementation of national employment strategies and identify measures to address them; and facilitate the creation of an enabling environment to develop strategically important industries toward employment promotion and generation of quality jobs. Regional Employment Pre-Summit consultations are being conducted all over the country,” Aquino said.
RTIPC is a subcommittee of the National TIPC that ensures worker and employer representation and serves as a forum for tripartite advertising and consultation at the local level pursuant to Republic Act No. 10395, or the Tripartism Law.
The members are the main KEGs, which are employers, representatives from industry groups, national and sectoral employers, workers’ organizations, and social sectors. (DOLE-10/PIA-10)
