DOLE supports DSWD’s project on water, food security

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) – – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 2 assisted 500 beneficiaries of Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program in Tuguegarao City.

The assistance supports the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Project LAWA or Local Adaption to Water Access at BINHI or Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished.

DOLE Regional Director Jesus Elpidio Atal Jr. said the aid aims to assist beneficiaries who were tasked to establish and maintain water harvesting systems and vegetable gardens in different areas in the city.

He also said the initiative is part of the goal of mitigating water scarcity and ensuring adequate food supply for community members, especially vulnerable families.

“With the DOLE-DSWD partnership, we aim to provide opportunities for disadvantaged beneficiaries to earn while working for the sustainability of water and food supply in their areas,” said Atal.

In a recent payout, the DOLE distributed a total of P5.1 million for Project LAWA at BINHI beneficiaries.

Each beneficiary received P9,000 for completing their 20-day assignment in the last quarter of last year. (OTB/PIA Region 2 with reports from DOLE Region 2)
