ILOILO CITY (PIA) – – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) turned over a check amounting to P3-million to the local government unit of Tubungan, Iloilo for the implementation of the agency’s Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) that will help boost employment and livelihood opportunities, particularly, of the vulnerable sectors in the municipality.
Mayor Roquito Tacsagon received the check from DOLE Iloilo Field Office OIC Head Amalia Judicpa during the ceremonial turn-over on October 28, 2024.
Some 150 former rebels, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), vendors, marginalized farmers and self-employed individuals struggling with insufficient income will benefit from this initiative facilitated by the town’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO).
The DILP aims to address the economic challenges faced by the marginalized groups within the municipality. It seeks to empower individuals to establish and sustain their own livelihood projects through the financial assistance and resources provided. It is also crucial for former rebels’ reintegration to society as well as for PWDs and marginalized farmers who often encounter barriers to economic participation.
Judicpa is hoping that the funding will not only enhance the economic stability of the beneficiaries but will also foster a sense of community and collaboration among them. The initiative is aligned with the government’s broader objectives to create inclusive and resilient communities where all individuals have access to opportunities for economic growth.
Tacsagon expressed his gratitude to DOLE for their support and commitment to help the community. He reiterated the local government’s dedication to work hand in hand with various organizations to ensure that the benefits of the program reach those who need it the most.
The event was attended by the Philippine Army 61st Infantry Battalion led by LTC Arturo Balgos Jr., and other local government officials including Vice Mayor Leo Cezar Taypen and PESO Head Emelyn Tano. (AAL/LAF/PIA6-Iloilo/PESO-Tubungan)
