JASAAN, Misamis Oriental (PIA) — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-10 successfully conducted Food Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) training in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental on September 10, 2024.
Fourteen participants from the United Livestock Raisers Cooperative (ULIRCO) attended the training, which aimed to enhance food processors’ knowledge of food processing principles and production standards.
The training also ensured awareness and improved understanding of food safety concerns and issues under Republic Act 10611, the Food Safety Act of 2013.
Participants focused on three major topics under the DOST Unified Food Safety Training modules: Basic Food Hygiene, Food Safety Hazards, and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
ULIRCO, a local cooperative producing pasteurized milk carrying the “Fresh Moo” brand, is supported by the National Dairy Authority and was a recipient of DOST’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).
In 2022, the cooperative received milk processing equipment and laboratory analysis services through the program. Additionally, it benefited from consultancy services through DOST’s Manufacturing Productivity Extension Program (MPEX).
Wilfredo Perez, ULIRCO’s chairperson, thanked the DOST for the continuous technical support and training provided to the cooperative, which he described as vital to their success. He noted that the training served not only as a refresher course but also as an essential step in helping them secure their License to Operate (LTO) and Certificate of Product Registration (CPR) from the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) prerequisites for market expansion.
DOST continues to offer consultancy and training services to industries and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to improve compliance with GMP standards and requirements. (DOST-10/JAKA/PIA-10)
