KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 12 is encouraging local innovators to apply for the GALING program to secure grants for proposed innovations.
The DOST-Technology Application and Promotion Institute supports the GALING program, promoting new technologies through technical and financial support, commercial prototypes, and small-scale testing.
“We encourage our local inventors and innovators to take full advantage of the GALING Program by DOST-TAPI, which provides both technical and financial assistance to help bring their ideas to market,” Engr. Sammy Malawan said, DOST regional director.
He also urged them to showcase their talents and creativity by participating in the upcoming Mindanao clusterICE invention contest—a platform that celebrates innovation and inspires even greater achievements.
For eligibility and requirements, interested applicants may visit the official website of the DOST-TAPI at www.tapi.dost.gov.ph.
After the application is submitted, the TAPI will assess the eligibility of the papers. The deadline for submitting proposals is January 31, 2025.
Last year, Alphy Ferraren from Gumaga, Libungan, Cotabato Province, was a grantee for his innovative USB port with a mounting holder.
“Ito ay isang makabagong mukha ng USB port na may layuning mas gawing madali ang pagkonekta ng mga wiring sa USB port,” Ferraren said, adding that his creation is most useful in computers, CD players, and outlets for chargers in motorcycles.
(The goal of this innovative USB port design is to simplify the wiring connection process.)
Ferraren’s innovation underwent technology validation such as prototyping, fabrication, assembly, and many other tests to thoroughly assess and verify the technology.
“Ang pagkakapasa sa mga test na ito ay nagpapatunay na ang aking imbensyon ay dumaan sa pagsusuri at sumunod sa standards ng Electronics Product Development Center ng DOST,” he said.
(The completion of these tests confirms that my innovation is in line with the standards set by the Electronics Product Development Center of the DOST.)
Ferraren is given the option to either continue with the next step of the program, which is technology commercialization, or to endorse his innovation for electronics companies.
The DOST is optimistic about the GALING program, which aims to enhance communities through science, technology, and innovation.
“Scientists, inventors, researchers, and innovators are the true gems of our society, driving progress and transformation across diverse industries. Their contributions are pivotal in shaping socio-economic development, and their invaluable work deserves our unwavering support,” Malawan emphasized, adding that the DOST offers a range of programs, projects, and initiatives designed to empower and elevate their efforts.
