SAN FERNANDO CITY (PIA) – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 1 is calling for aspirants for the 2024 DOST – Science Education Institute (SEI) Undergraduate Scholarship.
The DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Program is one of the scholarship programs of the government that aims to stimulate and entice talented Filipino youths to pursue lifetime productive careers in science and technology.
Nikko Ofo-ob, Project Technical Assistant IV of DOST Scholarship Unit, said full-fledge scholars are entitled to various privileges including P40,000 a year for tuition and other school fees; P7,000 monthly living allowance; and P10,000 a year for learning materials and connectivity allowance.
In addition, scholars during their first semester in the first year will be granted P1,000 clothing allowance while graduating students will be given P1,000 graduation allowance.
“Mayroon din silang one economy-class roundtrip fare or transportation allowance para sa mga nag-aaral sa labas ng kanilang home province at may premium din na group health and accident insurance,” Ofo-ob stated.
Interested applicants must be graduating Grade 12 students in School Year (SY) 2023-2024, or graduates of Grade 12 of prior SYs.
They must be natural-born Filipino citizens with good moral character and in good health.
“Qualified din yung mga high school graduate natin bago ang K-12 Program but must belong to the Top 5 of his/her graduating class and have not yet earned any college or vocational unit,” Ofo-ob noted.
Scholars may choose from numerous science and technology priority courses, of which the list can be found on the DOST-SEI website.
In terms of documentary requirements, aspirants must submit a recent passport-size picture, birth certificate, parent’s proof of income, and accomplished Forms C-J which can be downloaded from the website.
The application is online and can be accessed through https://www.science-scholarships.ph/#/home.
Applications must be submitted on or before Dec.31.
Qualifying examination will be staged on Apr. 6-7, 2024.
Moreover, Ofo-ob noted that more than the financial support and guidance to scholars, the scholarship program also ensures a steady and adequate supply of human resources on science and technology who can help steer the country towards national progress. (JCR/MJTAB/CGCC, PIA Region 1 )
