QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — Science and Technology Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. on Thursday praised the accomplishments of the pharma company established by Filipino scientist and inventor Dr. Richard Nixon Gomez.
This, after Bauertek Farmaceutical Technologies, a leading Philippine manufacturer of food supplements, dominated the Pharmaceutical Category at the recent E-NNOVATE International Invention & Innovation Summit held May 16-18 in Krakow, Poland.
“It’s high time the world recognizes that Filipino scientists and inventors can be at par with those from other countries and that our technologies are world-class,” Solidum said. “When I learned that Bauertek Farmaceutical Technologies won this prestigious award, I said we should hold a press conference to announce that Filipino inventors, scientists and engineers can succeed.”
Gomez reiterated that their success would not have been possible without the support and assistance of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
“During those very trying moments (pandemic), the DOST was Bauertek’s partner in government,” Gomez said.
Assisted by DOST’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program, Bauertek advanced its research and development capabilities, eliminated outsourcing quality control, and greatly reduced production time. A 37.25 million peso ($700,000) grant from DOST’s Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development allowed the company to acquire critical technologies.
Three Bauertek supplements won awards:
BLACK GARLIC, intended to help patients with nerve disorders and certain cancers, resulted from collaboration with Mariano Marcos State University.
CanCur is designed for patients with epilepsy, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, anxiety, depression, sleep disorder and pain management.
PiCur can be used as a complementary breast, prostate, cervical, colon and other cancer treatment. (PIA-NCR)
