DOST grants ₱7.4-M, interest-free loan to Odiongan entreps

ODIONGAN, Romblon (PIA) — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in MIMAROPA has released ₱7.4 million to four micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Odiongan through the Small Enterprises Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).

DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. led the turnover ceremony, where the beneficiaries—El Elohe Barbeque House, Tablas Doctor’s Hospital, Selodio Dental Clinic, and Toji Construction and Supply—received interest-free loans to help expand and improve their businesses.

The SETUP program aims to provide technological assistance and funding to MSMEs, enabling them to enhance productivity, improve efficiency, and stay competitive in their respective industries.

During the same event, the DOST also recognized several MSMEs that had successfully completed the program and fully repaid their loans. These businesses were awarded certificates of ownership for the equipment and technology they acquired through SETUP.

Solidum encouraged graduates of the program to reapply if their businesses require further support, underscoring the government’s commitment to sustaining business growth and innovation in the region.

“I am very happy to see all of you here today. Some of you will continue to support, while others have graduated from the program, meaning you’ve fully paid back the help we’ve extended to you. For that, I am grateful,” Solidum said.

He also highlighted the vast potential for business in Romblon, stressing the importance of integrating all industries.

Rather than competing with one another, Solidum emphasized the need for businesses to collaborate and support each other for the greater good. (PJF/PIA MIMAROPA-Romblon)
