CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is promoting the development of tech-driven, resilient communities through projects focused on improving service delivery and community operations.
In northern Mindanao, DOST has partnered with six local government units for the Smart and Sustainable Communities Program. The initiative aims to enhance the quality of life in both urban and rural areas by integrating technology to make communities more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive.
The program is being implemented in the municipalities of Mambajao and Magsaysay, and the cities of Iligan, Malaybalay, Cagayan de Oro, and Oroquieta.
A key project under this initiative is the “Creating Innovation Districts for a Liveable City Township Through Township Innovation Management Application (TIMApp),” which includes the development of the eCitizen mobile app.
“The eCitizen app in Iligan City aims to provide citizens with a platform for direct reporting of emergencies, including disaster risk,” said Romela Ratilla, DOST-10 director, during the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas, March 25.
The app features a real-time GIS-based map that helps emergency responders locate individuals in need of assistance, improving response times and coordination.
Ratilla said the app has registered 946 users since its launch late last year.
Aside from emergency reporting, users can access hotlines and receive announcements through the eCitizen app.
Other projects under the program include the Digitized Emergency Tracking Alert System and GEOpindot mobile application in Malaybalay City, the Digital eReferral System for Enhanced Healthcare Delivery in Iligan City, Smart Data Management Solutions for Agriculture and Road Incident in Oroquieta City, and the Real Property Tax Mapping System – MapX, also in Oroquieta City.
