DOST promotes ‘PROPEL’ program to north Luzon stakeholders

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), through the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Technology Transfer, Communications, and Commercialization (TTCC), introduced to stakeholders in northern Luzon a new initiative aimed at positioning Filipino innovations globally.

“Through Program PROPEL, we aim to transform research into impact, driving Filipino innovations to create real-world solutions and economic opportunities,” ASec. Napoleon Juanillo said during the Zonal Conference on January 31 in Baguio City.

DOST’s PROPEL Program offers an interactive and comprehensive learning environment that equips participants with essential business and entrepreneurial knowledge and skills, and provides mentorship and resources to help participants navigate through challenges in scaling up their innovations and successfully bringing products to market, here and abroad.

Program PROPEL generally aims to guide researchers, scientists, innovators, S&T entrepreneurs and startups through different stages of product development – from ideation all the way to the commercialization stage.

Also, PROEL guides the DOST research and development and innovations technology transfer and business development office, the innovation hubs of regions and provinces, and provincial S&T officers.

Moreover, the Zonal Conference tackled other DOST programs under the TCC, which include the STI for Sustainable Development Goals and the PAGTANAW 2050: ST& Foresight Training Series.

Furthermore, the conference engaged participants in a workshop and a question and answer on mapping the global value and supply chain for semiconductors and electronic vehicles, another project of the DOST–TTCC.

Juanillo thanked the conference participants and called for meaningful discussions and conversations on PROPEL and the other DOST programs and initiatives under his office.

He announced that the TCC is in-charge in plotting the contributions of STI to attain the Sustainable Development Goals, assist in tracking the country’s performance in the global innovation index, and working with the Technology Applications and Promotions Institute in auditing intellectual property and utility models and various applications toward intellectual property management.

The Zonal conference in Baguio was the first of a series lined up by the DOST-TTCC office to promote the PROPEL program across the country. (JDP/CCD-PIA CAR)
