DOST-SEI opens 2025 scholarship applications

PAGADIAN CITY (PIA)—The Department of Science and Technology—Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) is now accepting applicants for the 2025 Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS) program.

This program is available to qualified second-year college students taking priority in science and technology (S&T) courses in state universities and colleges.

The JLSS program is designed to assist students in science, technology, and innovation careers. It offers important funding to help lessen the costs of books and other educational expenses. The scholarship also offers a monthly stipend, transportation allowances, and tuition support.

Zoren F. Antonio, project technical specialist of the S&T Scholarship Unit of DOST-9, emphasized that program completers of JLSS-exclusive program under Republic Act 10612 are required to render their return service as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics educators in any SHS in the Philippines.

Beyond financial assistance, the program also offers PATRIOT, or the Filipino Patriot Scholars Project, which aims to mold scholars into passionate and committed individuals ready to serve the nation through science and technology.

For those who are interested in applying, the deadline is May 16, 2025, to request school inclusion in the E-Application System; May 23, 2025, for the online application and uploading of requirements; and the schedule for the qualifying examination on July 27, 2025.

Applicants who have already applied for the DOST-SEI undergraduate scholarship examinations but were not qualified, or those who passed but did not take advantage of the scholarship, are also qualified to apply.

“For those upcoming third-year college students taking up courses related to science and technology, I highly encourage you to never hesitate and grab the opportunity, especially those talented academically or financially less fortunate students,” said Elmar S. Miral, a third-year civil engineering student at Western Mindanao State University and a 2024 JLSS scholar.
