DOST Siquijor strengthens clients with Operations Management Review

SIQUIJOR, Siquijor (PIA) — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Provincial Science and Technology Office here conducted an Operations Management Review for clients of the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).

According to senior science research specialist and information officer-designate Engr. Reinhold Jek Y. Abing, the review is part of the Manufacturing Productivity Extension (MPEX) program that aims to assess the current operational state of participating micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and identify areas for improvement.

Consultants hired by DOST to realize this goal shared their findings and recommendations to the clients.

Emphasizing the importance of the review, DOST Siquijor provincial S&T director Engr. Mario E. de la Peña said the Operations Management Review serves as a valuable tool for SETUP clients to identify areas where they can streamline their operations and boost their overall productivity.

“By pinpointing inefficiencies and formulating improvement plans, we aim to empower them to become more competitive in the local market,” he said.

Engr. Andre Paolo Lim, one of the resource persons, highlighted the importance of a data-driven approach to business improvement.

“Through this review, we will be guiding our clients in gathering data on their current operations. This data will be crucial in identifying bottlenecks and formulating effective improvement plans,” he explained.

The participating SETUP clients expressed their appreciation for the initiative.

“Daghan ko ug nakat-unan – number one, kung unsaun nako pag dumala sa akong mga tawo nga mahimong patas ang atong pamaagi. Number two, nakakat-on ko kung unsaon pagbahig aron ang mga butang ug ekipo hapsay. Number three, nakakat-on ko kung unsaon aron madali ug paspas ang dagan sa atong pag negosyo,” said Jonathan Engtuito, proprietor of KMJ Furniture Shop.

(I have learned a lot – number one is on how to manage my people so that our approach will be fair. Number two, I learned how to organize things and equipment. And number three, I learned how to make our business run efficiently and fast-moving.)

Similar sentiments were shared by the proprietors of Dumalaay Coastline Resort, Tawhay Resto Café, Karl’s Cakes and Pastries, and RivTan General Merchandise.

Abing said the Operations Management Review is one of the many ways DOST Siquijor assists SETUP clients.

“Through these initiatives, DOST Siquijor remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering Siquijor’s local MSMEs thru science, technology, and innovation interventions,” he said. (RAC/PIA-Siquijor with reports from Engr. Reinhold Jek Y. Abing)
