DOST trains Sadanga LDRRMOs on radio communication

SADANGA, Mountain Province (PIA)–The Department of Science and Technology led the conduct of “Training on Radio Communication and Techno-Forum on Disaster Prevention and Mitigation”   for local disaster risk reduction and management officers (DRRMOs) in February 3.

A total of 30 participants composed of municipal and barangay DRMMOs learned the radio regulations (licensing procedures) and restricted land-mobile operation from Engr. Robillo A. Soliven of the National Telecommunications Commission-Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Engr. Mark Jenesis E. Laory of DOST-CAR, meanwhile, discussed disaster prevention and mitigation and the developed technologies for climate change adaption.

DOST – Mountain Province Provincial Director Alfonso K. Berto explained importance of establishing a communication network.  During calamities like typhoons where telecom lines are affected, the Very High Frequency (VHF) Radio communication network will serve as a very significant tool to reach out areas that are geographically isolated.

Establishing a municipal communication network will help the people to be warned for early evacuation during calamities and for incident monitoring, he said

Sadanga Municipal Mayor Adolf F Ganggangan said that the provision of VHF radios is timely and relevant especially in faster reporting from the barangay level to the municipal level.

Said training is part of the Community Enhancement thru Science and Technology for the municipality of Sadanga under the DOST’s Local Grants-in-Aid project. (JDP/VJLT-PIA Mt. Province)
