CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (PIA) — The Department of Tourism (DOT)-10 is revving up excitement for cycling enthusiasts as it officially launches the 2nd Camiguin Isle Bike Tour.
Set to pedal off on August 10, the event aims to showcase Camiguin’s landscapes and cultural heritage while promoting sustainable tourism.
“Aside from promoting sports, we put the spotlight on awareness of our national historical treasures and also our ecological treasures to preserve and take care of them for our future generations,” stated DOT-10 regional director Marie Elaine Unchuan.
Aligned with the Department’s enhanced 7-point agenda, the bike tour seeks to bolster Camiguin’s tourism industry by highlighting its attractions and fostering a thriving eco-tourism environment. Cyclists will embark on a challenging 64-kilometer loop, traversing vistas and passing landmarks such as the Tongatok Cliff Resort, the Walkway, Old Spanish Church Ruins, Sagay Freedom Park, Guinsiliban Moro Watch Tower, and Katunggan Mangrove Park. The tour will commence and conclude at Camiguin’s New Capitol Grounds.

“We are thrilled to showcase Camiguin’s ecotourism gems and encourage everyone to embrace wellness and sports tourism,” said Unchuan. “The island’s lush landscapes and scenic grounds provide an ideal setting for cycling, allowing participants to experience the island’s charm while promoting an active and healthy lifestyle.”
Unchuan further said the bike tour also serves as a platform to strengthen Camiguin’s tourism branding, “Camiguin Isle Be There,” and environmental awareness.
“This event is not just a celebration of cycling, but a testament to our commitment to preserving and appreciating our environment,” she added.
With over 300 registrants, this year’s tour is poised to be even bigger and better than the previous year, which drew nearly 200 participants. (APB/PIA-10)
