DOT-9 assures tourists safety and security while promoting sustainable tourism in ZamPen

ISABELA CITY, Basilan (PIA) – The Department of Tourism (DOT)-9 assured the safety and security of tourists while promoting sustainable tourism practices in the Zamboanga Peninsula region.

During the PIA Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas, Regional Director Dara May Cataluña of DOT-9, reiterated the department’s commitment to promote sustainable tourism through the Bagong Pilipinas campaign. 

She explained that by aligning the campaign with the DOT’s 7-point agenda, Zamboanga Peninsula can continue to develop as a responsible and inclusive tourist destination that benefits both visitors and local communities.

She explained DOT has been working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of tourists visiting Zamboanga Peninsula. This, as the region has been recognized for its rich cultural heritage, stunning natural beauty, and warm hospitality, making it an attractive destination for foreign tourists.

Chief Tourism Operations Officer Wenceslao Z. Galeza Jr., who was with Dir. Cataluña said “we are encouraging foreigners to come over and coordinate with us or to any DOT-accredited operators and the local government unit they choose to visit. We can assure you that the safety and security of our guests will be ensured.”

Moreover, Dir. Cataluña said DOT is working closely with local communities, government agencies, and private sector stakeholders to develop responsible and eco-friendly tourism initiatives. These efforts aim to minimize the environmental impact of tourism while enhancing the visitor experience.

“The safety and security of our guests is our top priority. We want to ensure that our visitors have a wonderful experience in Zamboanga Peninsula while also promoting sustainable tourism practices that benefit our local communities,” she emphasized.

Meanwhile, with regards to some travel ban to Basilan issued by some international embassies, Dir. Cataluña said that they will continue to promote the safe, secured and wonderful Zamboanga Peninsula which is poised to become a responsible and inclusive tourist destination that attracts visitors from around the world.
