MALOLOS CITY (PIA) — The Department of Tourism (DOT) is set to establish an arts and cultural hub at the Hiyas ng Bulacan Cultural Center to reinforce efforts in preserving, promoting, and developing the province’s rich artistic and cultural heritage.
DOT Regional Director Richard Daenos said this project aligns with the government’s broader vision of strengthening the Philippine Creative Industry, in line with Republic Act 11904 or the Philippine Creative Industry Development Act.
To kickstart the initiative, DOT has allocated P1 million to support programs that enhance arts education, safeguard intellectual property, strengthen creative capabilities, and facilitate cultural exchanges across Central Luzon.
The arts and cultural hub will also serve as a platform for recognizing outstanding local artists, similar to the ‘Manlilikha ng Bayan’ award given to exceptional Filipino artisans.
The project will benefit artists, designers, performers, and cultural practitioners across various creative domains including live music, theater, dance, architecture, fashion, furniture making, gastronomy. And cultural festivals.
Meanwhile, Department of Trade and Industry Senior Trade and Industry Specialist Judith Dela Cruz encouraged creative professionals to submit project proposals for potential funding under the Malikhaing Pinoy Program, which provides financial assistance for research, trade promotion, human resource development, and artist welfare.
Dela Cruz also emphasized that eligible projects must be approved by the local culture and arts council to qualify for funding under the Creative Industry Development Fund, which can be sourced from loans, grants, and foreign contributions.
For his part, Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Vice President and Artistic Director Dennis Marasigan recognized Bulacan as ‘Cradle of Arts’ for its vital role in shaping the country’s contemporary arts scene.
He noted that the province has produced the highest number of National Artists in the Philippines, solidifying its reputation as a leading cultural hub. (MJSC/SFV, PIA Region 3-Bulacan)
