DAVAO CITY (PIA)– An official of the Department of Tourism-XI (DOT-XI) cited the need for online and route connectivity especially for the resorts in the Island Garden City of Samal (IGaCoS).
Department of Tourism XI Regional Director Tanya Rabat-Tan, said the IGaCoS offers comfortable accommodation facilities and high-end resorts.
She said DOT Sec. Christina Frasco is working closely with the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) to fast track this need.
“We try to improve every aspect that is needed to have a conducive place for being a competitive destination, like the needed connectivity online, cellular phone and travel that Samal needs,” Tan said.
She said the IGACOS has to work further on its connectivity and the DOT has the mandate to address it.
Tan said the online communication, cellular phone signal and the route connectivity are the areas that need to be addressed immediately.
Meanwhile, Tan also cited the need for Samal Island to have more dive partners that can help promote the island domestically and internationally.
She said Samal Island has many dive sites to offer and dive partners are needed to cater to more people avail of their dive services.
Tan said the DOT recently concluded its three-day Davao Dive Expo event.
She narrated that three years ago, a dive expo was launched in Davao City which was participated by Davao residents; last year 20 exhibitors attended coming from different parts of the country.
“For this year, we have participants from Batangas, Cebu and more regions from Mindanao,” Tan said.
She said that Davao Dive Expo was one of the successful events in promoting the city as a viable Dive Site.
“We want to be placed in the map, as a ready destination dive site,” Tan said. (JSGD-Davao del Sur)
