BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Department of Transportation-Cordillera (DOTr-CAR) reminds drivers to be cautious and always check themselves before driving to ensure their safety and of their passengers.
DOTr-CAR Regional Law Enforcement Section Acting Chief Engr. Elmer Mendoza shared that based reports from the Philippine National Police, the primary cause of road crash incidents in the region is attributed to the driver followed by mechanical defect.
“Nasayaat latta nga ti driver ket ag-assess metlaeng, i-check na metlaeng ti bagi na nu isuna ket natalged nga ag-drive (It is still best for the driver to assess and check himself to ensure that he is safe to drive),” Mendoza said.
He reiterated that drivers must ensure that they have good sleep, are not intoxicated with liquor, and are in good condition when driving.

Mendoza also reminded about the BLOW BAGETS which stands for battery, light, oil, water, breaks, air, gas, engine, tire and tools, and self. He added that it is also important to always bring the necessary documents and driver’s license.
The DOTr has implemented stricter requirements and more comprehensive examinations to assess the competency of drivers applying for license. It has also been actively conducting road safety campaigns and awareness programs to educate drivers about the importance of following traffic rules and regulations.
Meanwhile, Engr. Lalaine Sobremonte of the LTFRB DOTr-CAR urged the road crash victims, survivors and their families to join them in the observance of the National Day of Remembrance on Sunday, November 19.
She said that the DOTr-CAR will hold a program in Marcos Highway, Tuba, Benguet with a mass, a candlelight ceremony, and a short program. They will also distribute information education materials.
Pursuant to Republic Act 11468, the third Sunday of November every year was declared as National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims, Survivors, and Their Families.
Aside from the commemorative ceremonies, the law also gives special recognition to public officers, volunteers, and those who are instrumental in saving lives or supporting road crash victims, survivors, and their families. (JDP/DEG-PIA CAR)
