QUEZON CITY, (PIA) — The Department of Transportation (DOTR) is gearing up for a surge in holiday travelers as discussed in the recent episode of “Impormasyon at Aksyon sa Bagong Pilipinas,” hosted by Philippine Information Agency-National Capital Region Director Emver P. Cortez and Information Officer Jenny Rose G. Red, featuring Timothy John Batan, Undersecretary of the DOTR.
During the teleradyo show being broadcast live over Radyo Pilipinas DZRB (738 AM) and on Facebook, Batan highlighted the expected increase in commuters during the Christmas season, noting that not only are more people traveling within Metro Manila, but many are also flying back to their provinces for the holidays.
“Pag umaabot itong Disyembre, dumadami ang bilang ng ating commuters hindi lang yung dito sa ating Kamaynilaan pati narin yung pumasok at lumilipad patungo sa mga kanya-kanya nilang probinsya,” he said.

Batan advised travelers to arrive early at airports due to long lines and recommended utilizing online check-in services to expedite the process.
“Mahaba po talaga ang pila sa ating mga paliparan dahil sa dami po ng pasahero,” he added.
To accommodate the holiday rush, Batan announced extended operations for the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) systems.
The LRT lines will operate from 4:30 a.m. to 10:45 p.m, while the MRT will run from 4:30 a.m. until 11:00 p.m.
On the other hand, the EDSA Busway will also be operational 24 hours a day, with additional special permits granted to transport network vehicle services (TNVS) to increase supply for commuters.
For travelers with special needs, Batan reminded the public that help desks are available at airports and ports to provide necessary assistance.
“Para po ating mga travelers na may special needs meron po tayong help desk sa atin pong mga paliparan at pantalan na pwedeng lapitan nang makakuha ng karampatan pong assistance para sa ating mga PWDs at senior citizens,” he said.
Modern jeepneys are also equipped to accommodate wheelchairs, and operators are urged to assist passengers with disabilities.
“Dito naman po sa ating lansangan isa naman po sa mga features ng ating mga modern jeeps ay halimbawa kakayana nitong mag karga ng wheelchair at dyan po ay pinapaalalahanan natin ang mga operator at drivers na matulungan ang mga commuters na may espesyal na pangangailangan,” he added.
The official addressed concerns about scams, particularly regarding flight bookings.
He advised commuters to book directly through official airline websites or at their offices to avoid becoming victims of fraud.
Victims of scams are encouraged to report to the DOTR or the Civil Aeronautics Board, where assistance is readily available.
Batan also provided updates on major infrastructure projects, including the Metro Manila Subway, which is currently under construction and will connect Valenzuela to NIA Terminal 3.
He noted that the North-South Rail Project is progressing, linking Clark International Airport to Calamba.
As a part of the holiday preparations, the DOTR is committed to ensuring safe and efficient travel for all commuters, enhancing accessibility, and expanding train operations to meet the rising demand during the festive season. (JCO/PIA-NCR)
