ARITAO, Nueva Vizcaya (PIA) – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is constructing a flood control structure along the Sta. Fe River in Barangay Bone North, Aritao, Nueva Vizcaya.

The P94 million project aims to protect the lives and property of residents living in the area.

The project involves building a 1,660-meter rubble concrete revetment structure with gabion mattress footing protection. This structure will help safeguard homes and rice fields from flooding during heavy rains.

The Sta. Fe River is a tributary of the Magat River, which provides irrigation for the Cagayan Valley Region.

Construction began on February 16, 2024, and is currently 74.44% complete. The project is expected to be finished by October 2024.

Engineer Agnes Lu, officer-in-charge of the DPWH 2nd District Engineering Office, said the flood control structure will benefit approximately 2,609 individuals. She emphasized that the project will enhance public safety and disaster resilience in the community. (BME/PIA NVizcaya)
