BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways – Cordillera advises the public to take all the necessary precautions especially when traveling in this mountainous region.
With the expected influx of tourists in the different parts of the region this Holy Week, DPWH-CAR Regional Director Khadaffy Tanggol stressed that motorists should consider all the safety precautions when traversing the roads in the Cordillera.
Motorists should always drive defensively as the mountainous terrains, narrow and sometimes steep roads are difficult to maneuver especially to drivers who are not familiar with the area.
“They (motorists) should watch out for the curves of our roads, descending and ascending and watch out for falling rocks, which are not unusual in the region,” Tanggol said.
“Sa ating mga motorists, the best pa din ang defensive driving, ito and pinaka safest, especially in the Cordillera region,” he added.
He said that motorists should strictly follow traffic rules such as speed limits and load limits of vehicles, and of roads and bridges.
The DPWH-CAR will reactivate the Lakbay Alalay Motorist Assistance Program during the Lenten break. Personnel from the regional office and the different district offices will also be deployed to provide support and assistance to the public on Maundy Thursday up to the Easter Sunday.
“Motorists and the general public are encouraged to seek needed assistance from our DPWH personnel deployed in the national roads and highways through our Lakbay Alalay stations during your travel in the Cordillera region,” Tanggol said. (JDP/RMC-PIA-CAR)
