DPWH completes ₱6.6M solar-powered school building in Marinduque

BOAC, Marinduque (PIA) — A new solar-powered school building worth ₱6.6 million was completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Marinduque District Engineering Office.

The project , which budget was sourced from the Basic Education Facilities Fund (BEFF), is located Matalaba National High School in Santa Cruz, Marinduque.

The funds were used for materials such as concrete posts, footings, footing tie beams, trusses, stairs, ramps, slabs, waterproofing, ceilings, and others.

Before the construction of the new building, there were three existing classrooms in the area, which were damaged by strong storms in the province several years ago. This led teachers to temporarily hold classes in the PTA hall, library, and computer laboratory.

DPWH said in its report that the project was carried out to address the shortage of classrooms.

“The new building features a spacious room with an electric fan, providing a comfortable learning environment for the growing number of students and supporting effective teaching by the faculty. It is also equipped with a large solar panel on the roof, which will provide energy for electrical equipment in case of a power outage from the cooperative that supplies electricity to the entire island,” DPWH said.

The new building will serve as a symbol of improved learning conditions for the students and teachers at Matalaba National High School. (DN/AS/PIA MIMAROPA/Photos courtesy of DPWH Marinduque)
