CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela (PIA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways- Isabela Fourth District Engineering Office has completed a flood control project in Jones, Isabela, ensuring the safety of residents living near the river.
Located in Barangay Dumawing, the project spans 240 meters and is designed to protect the area from recurring floods.
District Engineer Evelyn Costales said the initiative will protect over 1,200 residents in the barangay, contributing to greater security and long-term stability of the area.
She also said that the structure is a reinforced concrete slope protection with parapet walls, built on a steel sheet pile foundation.
The flood control project, she said, plays a critical role in enhancing the region’s resilience against floods, which has long been a concern for local residents.
“The project will protect homes, farmlands, and vital infrastructure from frequent flooding, securing the safety and well-being of our community,” Costales emphasized.
This flood control structure was funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) 2024 and was completed in October of last year. (MGE/PIA Isabela)
