DPWH completes flood control project, other infra totaling P67.1 million in Cagayan

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan (PIA) – – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DWPH) Region 2 has recently completed the construction of various infrastructure projects in the second district of Cagayan worth P67.1 million in total.

OIC-District Engineer Rellie Dalmaceda said among the completed infrastructure is the 112-lineal-meter flood control structure, which now protects the residents of Barangay Dungao in Sto. Niño town from floods during heavy rain downpours.

This project, with a total funding of ₱48.2 million, was completed through the construction of concrete slope protection on steel sheet piles with hexapods.

Dalmaceda said it is expected to safeguard the lives, properties, and livelihood of the residents and protect residential and agricultural areas against flooding and flood-related damages.

“This flood control infrastructure offers increased protection for the community whenever the Cagayan River swells during heavy rains, averting potential threats of flooding and even soil erosion,” she said.

In Rizal town, Dalmaceda said a one-storey, two-classroom school building was completed as an additional structure at the Mauanan Elementary School in Barangay Mauanan. Amounting to P4.7 million, the new school building has a floor area of 120 square meters.

Another one-storey, three-classroom school building with a total floor area of 180 square meters was also completed at Gaddangao Elementary School in Barangay Gaddangao with a budget of P6.5 million, according to Dalmaceda.

All classrooms in the two school buildings were installed with ceiling fans for proper air ventilation as well as comfort rooms.

In Abulug town, Dalmaceda said their office has also completed the construction of the Municipal Health Center in Barangay Libertad. The two-storey health center, situated at the heart of town, has a building area of 1,276.85 square meters.

“Through this Municipal Health Center project, we aim to contribute to helping provide fast and reliable access to essential healthcare services to the public,” she said. (OTB/MDCT, with reports from DPWH/PIA Cagayan)
