DPWH completes flood control structure in Mamburao

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — The flood control structure in Occidental Mindoro that would protect the lives and properties of residents during disaster has already been completed.

In a press release, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said it has already completed the flood control structure located near the Occidental Mindoro State College in Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro.

It added that the existing heavily damaged flood control structure in the area is at risk from scouring caused by heavy discharge from Mamburao River which compromises the safety of the residents and neighboring communities.

The rehabilitation of the said structure will ensure the reliability of the road section even during the rainy season.

In a report by Occidental Mindoro District Engineer Joselito A. Antonio, the project involved the replacement of the existing 145 linear meters flood control structure with steel sheet piles, pile caps, and grouted rip-rap revetment.

The project also widened a narrow portion of the Mindoro West Coastal Road which prepares the section for future road widening projects.

“The structure protects not only lives and properties near the area but also supports economic growth by reducing damage to infrastructure in the municipality and mitigating the threat of flooding,” said Antonio. (AS/PIA MIMAROPA-Oriental Mindoro)
