DPWH completes P14.9M farm-to-market road in Sultan Kudarat’s town

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato (PIA) – For many years, the only way to access Barangay Baluan in Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat was by habal-habal, modified motorcycles that could carry more people and cargo.

Now, the paved road is helping boost the local economy by making it easier to trade goods, improving access for farmers, students, and residents, and facilitating the delivery of government services.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently reported completion of the 1.382-kilometer farm-to-market road in the area.

The 2024 Department of Agriculture budget provided P14.9 million to fund the cemented road that connects Baluan National High School to Purok 5.

District Engineer Elpidio A. Birog of the Sultan Kudarat 2nd District Engineering Office revealed plans for additional road concreting projects to connect the municipalities of Palimbang and Senator Ninoy Aquino (SNA).

“More road concreting projects are in the pipeline to connect Palimbang to SNA via the Milbuk-Baluan Road. In fact, we currently have an ongoing road concreting project in Barangay Milbuk, which is already in its second phase. This will continue seamlessly until it reaches SNA,” Birog said.

The projects, the official added, are part of DPWH’s efforts to support the development of rural communities and improve local infrastructure. (ORVR – PIA Sultan Kudarat)
