MANILA — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Cotabato 1st District Engineering Office has completed the construction of a flood control structure along Balogo River (Upper Balogo Elementary School Section) in Barangay Anick, Pigcawayan, North Cotabato.
This P17 million project, spanning 175.08 linear meters, began in January and was completed at the end of June 2024.
Since its completion, the structure has significantly reduced harm and provided robust protection to the agricultural livelihood, particularly benefiting Upper Balogo Elementary School, which is situated along the river. It has also ensured the continued stability of the socio-economic activities within the community.
Meanwhile, another flood control project along the Balogo River (Anick Section) in Barangay Anick is nearing completion. This structure, with a length of 455 linear meters, includes a flood protection barrier featuring slope protection and railings. With a contract amount of P48.755 million, the project is almost 100% completed.
These projects highlight the DPWH’s steadfast commitment to enhancing infrastructure and fostering socio-economic development in the district. By addressing the challenges of flooding and severe erosion, the completed and ongoing structures along Balogo River are expected to bring lasting improvements to the daily lives of local residents. Particularly during heavy rains, these flood control measures will prevent the detrimental effects of surging water, ensuring the safety, stability, and sustainability of the community.(DPWH)
