DPWH, DAR complete farm-to-market roads in Cagayan, boosting local economy

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (PIA) – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Cagayan 2nd District Engineering Office, in partnership with the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), has completed two crucial farm-to-market road (FMR) projects in Abulug, Cagayan.

The new infrastructures are poised to enhance transportation efficiency for agricultural products and stimulate local trade.

One of the major projects is a 915-meter road in Barangay Simayung, funded with ₱12.4 million and completed in the second quarter of 2024. This new road is expected to facilitate the movement of agricultural goods, boost productivity, and provide farmers with better access to larger markets.

OIC-District Engineer Rellie S. Dalmaceda emphasized that the new road will streamline the transport of crops to commercial areas, attracting investments that will further contribute to Abulug’s economic growth.

“This road offers our farmers a more efficient way to transport their harvests, leading to improved productivity and easier access to larger markets,” Dalmaceda stated.

Additionally, the DPWH has completed a 1.2-kilometer FMR in Barangay Guiddam, funded with ₱12.2 million. This road is designed to reduce transportation costs, minimize post-harvest losses, and ensure timely delivery of essential goods and services, thereby enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.

Dalmaceda noted that the new road in Barangay Guiddam is anticipated to improve the timely delivery of crucial supplies and services, ultimately uplifting the standard of living for its residents.

The initiative underscores the commitment of both implementing agencies to promote sustainable development and economic resilience in Cagayan. (MFJ/PIA Cagayan)
